It seems to me the perfect day to make a big announcement – I’m going to be a mama in November! I’ve just begun the second trimester of my pregnancy and now that the constant nausea and exhaustion seem to have dissipated, I’m able to focus on just how wonderful it is to be expecting a baby. We’re over the moon about it, and I’m looking forward to sharing all my projects and insights as we prepare for the little one.

The above picture is my dad and I when I was a tiny baby. I’d like to recreate it when ours is born, I’ll have to see if he still has that cool hat.

Happy Mother’s day, everyone!

This year’s garden is a new kind of challenge. Last year we had access to a great backyard with plenty of space for the garden. We built raised beds from reclaimed brick, and we had a great harvest. This year we’re building raised beds from wood for a balcony garden now that we live on the 2nd floor and don’t have the same yard access. I started the seeds today, hoping that in about a month or so they’ll be ready to go in the ground well after Buffalo’s projected last frost of the season (mid-May).

This year in the garden:
Peas, scallions, spinach, zucchini, summer squash, bell peppers, Roma tomatoes, watermelon, lavender, cilantro, dill, and rosemary.
